As humans we often ask this question numerous times a day, why? When disastrous things happen in our lives sometimes we can’t help but to wonder why. I felt a tug on my heart this week to write about this topic that is so near and dear to me. Being someone who has had to ponder and accept the why’s of life I’ve only been able to come up with one answer to this question….Jesus.
Now, this answer didn’t come to me overnight trust me, but when it did, it was a serious revelation that changed my whole perspective and life as I knew it.
My why was this, why did I have open-heart surgery? Many of you may know that I had open-heart surgery when I was 14. It might have been three years ago but I carry that around with me everyday. I couldn’t for the longest time understand why God was doing this to me. I searched and searched for answers and always came to a dead end. But it wasn’t until after surgery that everything was abundantly clear. All my questions, answered. All my worries, vanished. All my concerns, gone. Jesus entered my life and changed every part of me from the inside out.
But let me ask you this, what is your why?
Is it:
Why are my parents getting divorced?
Why was that person taken out of my life?
Why am I not in the “in crowd”?
Why did that relationship end?
Why didn’t I get accepted into that college?
Why did this have to happen to me?
I might not have all the answers, but I do know Jesus and I do know this:
He wouldn’t let a certain situation happen if he knew you couldn’t handle it. (1 Corinthians 10:13)
His plan is far greater than we could ever imagine. Through every trial and tribulation he is slowly molding you to be the person that he is calling you to be. (Isaiah 64:8)
Sometimes there will be disastrous and heartbreaking things that happen to you in this life. But it’s all about the way that you let it impact your perspective. For me, my perspective did a 360 ever since my open-heart surgery. I have learned that you have to live everyday like it’s your last, put all of your trust in Jesus and to continue to walk and strengthen your relationship with Christ because this world and its possessions are only temporary but Christ is eternal. I just want to glorify God with everything that I say and everything that I do because he loves me, he saved me from my sins and from the grave.
So let me ask you this, what are you going to do with your why? Are you going to let it turn you into someone else that you don’t recognize or are you going to take your situation and turn it around to glorify God? You might not understand why your parents are getting divorced or why you aren’t in the “in crowd” but God does because he has a specific plan for your life and he is saving you from other situations that would occur down the road. I can’t tell you that whatever you’re going through won’t hurt because it will. But every day gets better and better when you have Jesus by your side and walking with you. He wants you to take these experiences and turn them around to mold you into the person that he is calling you to be.
Life is too short to be worried about present circumstances. Take these trials that believe it or not God has blessed you with and lean on Jesus. I wouldn’t trade my open-heart surgery for anything in this world because it has made me into the person that I am today and I wouldn’t be where I am without it. Throughout everything fix your eyes on Jesus because at the end of the day he is the one that will welcome you home.
